Thankfully, there are not as many pallet sizes as there once was. This is due to regional and global organisations now standardising pallet sizes by application and region. But you will still need to be sure you are using the right pallet for your application, be that transportation via container trucks, or airfreight to European countries.
This definitive guide will show you the most common pallet sizes you may come across and need for your business.

- For use on racking systems
- Can vary by individual warehouse racking solutions
- Maximum load for when pallet and products are placed on a racking system
This refers to the various load capacities a pallet can take. Static could be a single pallet at rest or stack of pallets on a flat surface. Dynamic is for use on conveyors or a warehouse forklift. Racking simply means the maximum weight a pallet could take while placed on a racking system.
Open deck pallets have improved ventilation and provide easy drainage; this can be mandatory in warehouses with automatic sprinkler systems. The design is more lightweight while still offering incredible load capacities.
Closed deck pallets offer superior hygiene compared to open deck pallets, and in turn, are easier to clean. The smooth surface also gives full support across the base of items such as cardboard boxes.
Nestable pallets are ideal if you are short on space and are storing or distributing small goods. By design, they have a lighter load capacity, but if you are looking to store something heavier, then try our rackable plastic pallets which can hold up to 5 tonnes.
Hygiene pallets are extremely easy to clean and designed to minimise contamination having completely closed surfaces on the top and bottom of the pallet. Food grade pallets are lightweight so they can be easily moved around, either in person or by machinery.
Plastic Pallets are more hygienic, cost-effective and more sustainable compared to Wooden Pallets. Plastic Pallets last up to 25 times longer than their wooden counterparts. From January 1st 2021 they also benefit from being exempt from the ISPM15 regulation, which affects shipping within the EU. All Wooden Pallets used for shopping within the EU after January 1st will require an ISPM15 certification. They are always uniform in size and strength and are safer for manual handling applications with no nails and splinters.
Another benefit is their resistance to moisture ingress. The product can be damaged by being stored on wet wooden pallets also moisture will add weight to the pallet. When airfreighting goods nestable pallets can be 33% lighter than the wooden pallets giving excellent savings on airfreight costs.
